Discord timestamp formats

Discord timestamps use the pattern <t:UNIX:STYLE>, where UNIX is seconds since 1970 and STYLE is one letter. The examples below are shown in US English for midnight UTC on 1 January 2026; readers see their own language and time zone.

<t:1767225600:t>Short time: 12:00 AM
<t:1767225600:T>Long time: 12:00:00 AM

Frequently asked questions

What is a Discord timestamp?

A Discord timestamp is a code like <t:1767225600:F> that Discord turns into a date and time. Each reader sees it in their own time zone and language, so you never have to convert times for an international server.

How do I use a Discord timestamp?

Copy the code from this page and paste it into any message, embed description, embed field or channel topic. Discord shows the formatted date as soon as the message is sent.

What do the letters t, T, d, D, f, F and R mean?

t and T are short and long time, d and D are short and long date, f and F are short and long date with time, and R is relative time such as "in 3 hours". If you leave the letter out, Discord uses f.

Does the relative timestamp update by itself?

Yes. Relative timestamps (R) count up or down live in the Discord client, which makes them useful for event countdowns and deadlines.

Can I use timestamps in embeds and bots?

Yes. Timestamps work in message content, embed descriptions and embed field values. Bots can build them with a Unix timestamp in seconds, for example `<t:${Math.floor(Date.now() / 1000)}:R>` in JavaScript.

What is a Unix timestamp?

A Unix timestamp is the number of seconds since January 1, 1970 UTC. Discord timestamps use seconds. If you paste a 13 digit value in milliseconds, this tool converts it for you.
